The Scottish Highlands and Islands
make up half of the country. They lie to the north and west of a line from
Aberdeen on the North Sea to Loch Lomond and Argyll in the west. The Highlands
aren't all heather clad hills and lochs, though. Rich farmland and lush lowlands
often lie by the sea and extend far inland along many glens.
Inverness is often called the 'capital
of the Highlands', certainly it is the largest centre. You could base yourself
in this pocket sized city which has all the urban amenities you would expect
or chose to stay one of the many smaller towns and villages across the highlands.
If you realy want to escape the bustle head for a tiny cottage in a remote
glen! So whereever you choose to stay in the Scottish Highlands there is
hotel, b&b or self catering accommodation to suit every budget.
