Family History Research
About 30 years ago my wife
and I spend a full day in Register House in Edinburgh and traced all our
ancestral lines back to people born in the 18thC. I have also been told we
were lucky!
The Internet now provides a valuable
source of information on what you need to do and where to look. My wife and I have now pushed our
family trees much further back and have 100s of names on them. Try starting
at ScotsMart Web Directory. Good resources are
Scotland's People and
FamilySearch.org.
Our sister site gives further
historical information about
Perthshire Clans
and their Castles.
To carry out family history
research properly you need someone to 'do some leg work'. You should try this
yourself but often you need to turn to professional help.
Think carefully before simply writing off or sending an email to someone
other than a professional and asking them to do your 'leg work'. Family Roots
research can involve a lot of effort.
