James Sutherland McCombie (Jim), son of James Smith McCombie After receiving a good grounding in piping from the Late Willie Grant, Jim played with the Lonach Pipe Band. On leaving school, he joined the Scots Guards. After seeing the world as a piper for 12 years, decided to settle down, and become a fireman in London. He has played with British Caledonian Airways Pipe Band, British Airways Pipe Band, The City of London Blue Bonnets Pipe Band and Dan Air Pipe Band. He rose to Pipe Major for the British Airways Pipe Band. He is currently Pipe Sergeant of Harwich and District Pipe Band. A Selection of Musical Tunes for the Great Highland Bagpipe This book aims to publish music composed by unknown composers. Music of the ordinary piper, whose compositions would not otherwise be seen or heard. These unpublished tunes have been brought together as one collection to honour these unsung heros of piping. They, who eat, drink and sleep piping, have taught piping to countless budding pipers. Without the effort of people such as these, the piping and pipe band world would be in a very depleted state.
